Position Title: Materials, Planning and Logistics Manager

Career Level: Entry

Location: New Baltimore, MI

Role Summary:  Overall supervision of the Material, Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Department, including Scheduling, Purchasing, Customer Service, Shipping and ERP.  Responsible for oversight, tracking and reporting of key Department measureables and requirements. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

SCHEDULING and PLANNING

  • Understand, oversee and review short and long term scheduling of molding and assembly.
  • Perform, analyze and report on capacity planning.
  • Establish appropriate WIP and FG inventory levels and monitor performance.
  • Review, analyze and prepare for new program requirements.
  • Ensure management of outsourced molding and inventory.

 

PURCHASING

  • Understand, oversee and review resin, component and packaging purchases.
  • Establish appropriate purchased inventory levels and monitor performance.
  • Review vendor performance / changes / charge backs.
  • Establish regular purchasing reviews and establish short and long terms goals.

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Understand, oversee and review customer release requirements and changes.
  • Review and report on daily and monthly on-time delivery and expedited freight.
  • Review customer capacity / capability requests.

 

SHIPPING, WAREHOUSE and LOGISTICS

  • Understand, oversee and review daily shipping requirements and needs.
  • Establish, review and monitor logistic agreements and freight invoices – domestic and international.
  • Oversee warehouse layout, organization and identification.
  • Oversee physical inventory planning, counts and analysis
  • Monitor and review old / inactive inventory for disposition.  Manage obsolescence of dead / dying programs.
  • Manage returnable dunnage purchases / inventory.
  • Review truck driving requirements and personnel.
  • Oversee receiving inspection requirements and personnel.

 

ERP and BILL OF MATERIALS

  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy.
  • Manage BOM updates and changes.
  • Review financial impact of BOM / Purchasing / inventory changes
  • Oversee ERP software performance, updates and requirements.
  • Oversee EDI setup and requirements.

 

GENERAL

  • Review and report established measureables to Management Team during daily, weekly and monthly reviews.
  • Lead daily MP&L meeting and establish monthly strategic planning and review with MP&L team.
  • Establish Department goals and efforts toward continual improvement and cost reduction.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in accordance to TransNav and ISO/TS 16949 Quality Procedures.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of conventionality and conformance in regard to the corporate culture.  Relates well with others, including, as appropriate, peers, supervisor, subordinates, customers and suppliers while maintaining good attendance.  Assumes appropriate role(s) when working in a team environment.  Responds appropriately to unexpected and/or continuing situations, which develop in the work environment.

Qualifications: Eligible to work in United States

Desired Characteristics: Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  In-depth understanding and demonstrated knowledge an application of various MP&L techniques and processes.

Position Title: Design Engineer

Role Summary:  Under general supervision, designs components and releases drawings to customers.  Leads Designers in translating designs into models and drawings.  Partners with internal and external customers and/or suppliers to establish product/component specifications and to address any outstanding issues.  Troubleshoots and determines root cause of failures; implements corrective actions.  Maintains and updates quality related documents.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs components using internal and externally purchased software.
  • Leads Designers in translating designs into 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Reviews drawings to ensure they are accurate and comprehensive
  • Partners with internal engineering personnel, external suppliers and/or customers regarding product requirement definitions, in order to establish product/component specifications and to address any outstanding issues. 
  • Works with development team members regarding test protocols and duty cycles for product/component.  
  • Troubleshoots issues.  Determines root cause of failures and plans and implements corrective actions in order to prevent reoccurrence.  Interfaces with manufacturing plants on implementation issues; resolves problems. 
  • Manages, maintains and updates quality related documents such as FMEA, DVP&R, RRCL, etc. 
  • Participates in design process definition, optimization and documentation activities. 
  • Analyzes current processes and identifies activities to improve efficiency, effectiveness and exceed customer expectations.  Makes recommendations to management.  Implements approved changes. (for own job) 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
